| Lower AC train fares?
The Railways are all set to unleash a second round of price cuts in AC fares, which could force low-cost airlines to rethink their pricing strategy as well. The move is likely to benefit the end-customer. Lalu Prasad Yadav is all set to stun the country once again. According to the sources, the Union Railway Ministry plans to announce a 30% cut in AC passengers fares, the second one in less than 8 months. Another feature likely to be introduced by the railways is dynamic pricing - a strategy that airlines use to fix fares according to availability of seats. This means that AC fares could get a lot cheaper in the off-peak season and may command a premium during the high rush period. However, the price cut in railways can dampen the spirit of the low-cost airlines as most of the non-frill airlines are targeting rail customers.
