Hawaii is made up of 132 islands in the North Pacific Ocean, some 1625 miles to the southwest of mainland USA. The majority of the islands are little more than tiny, uninhabited volcanic overspill, although the main six islands contain roughly a million inhabitants. The island of Oahu is home to famous areas such as Pearl Harbour, Sunset Beach and Honolulu, the islands' capital. Honolulu is a lively and cosmopolitan city that is renowned for its dramatic location, overlooked by Diamond Head, a dormant volcano, and bordered by the legendary Waikiki Beach. Outside Oahu, the other islands such as Maui, Kauai and Big Island are all famed for their beautiful beaches, spectacular volcanic scenery and rich culture that blends influences from Asia, Polynesia and the West to produce a people of great warmth and charm.
2006 Animal Affair features Lani Garrett tunes
Icelandic Design and Animal Emergency Center are proud to present the 22nd annual Animal Affair, a premier fundraising event to benefit Longmont Humane Society and the homeless animals of the St. Vrain Valley. The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Radisson Conference Center, 1850 Industrial Circle, Longmont. Our guests will enjoy the fun and dance tunes of Lannie Garrett's Platforms and Polyester Disco Revue as this year's entertainment. We are also honored to welcome Lynn Carey of CBS 4 as our Master of Ceremonies. The event includes an outstanding silent auction with items such as getaway packages, paintings and photography by local artists plus certificates for area eateries, spas and pet service specialists. The winners of our 2006 Vacation Raffle will also be drawn. The grand prize is seven nights in Las Vegas at a luxury Polo Tower Condominium located on the strip.
