Travel headlines have been proclaiming higher summer airfares to Europe, and man, is it true. Since Student Universe can usually be counted on for some very decent student airfare discounts, we looked for a few other ways to get to Munich on a dime this summer -- and the dimes added up. Let's analyze the options. Fly to London first Cheaper US-London fares can always be counted on -- it's a little closer, after all. We found a roundtrip student airfare from Student Universe at $438.45 + $250.20 taxes and fees for $688.65 leaving NYC on June 6.
With several offers, a PFD can lead to an escape from Alaska
One hallmark of the annual issuance of Alaska Permanent Fund dividends is the offer of cheap travel from providers looking to cash in on the influx of cash into nearly every Alaskan's pocket. Whether it's a break from the cold in Hawaii or getting a discount on tickets to the Lower 48, there are deals waiting for buyers who purchase during October and early November. International Travel Consultants is using Northwest Airlines for a PFD offer called the Aloha Express. The Aloha Express offers several choice of flights to and from the islands, from Dec. 20 through April 28 with service to Honolulu and Maui, and to Kona from Feb. 18 through April 8. Prices from Anchorage are $1,148 for two tickets on the Aloha Express, and $1,448 from Fairbanks. To upgrade to first class in a Boeing 757, the price remains the same, but only buys you one ticket.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more all-American town than Joplin, MO. Mesa Airlines' Air Midwest subsidiary is about to make it easier to fly to Joplin – and do it on the cheap - from $148, round-trip. That's the introductory fare between Joplin (JLN) and Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW). Twice-daily service on the route begins October 5. The discount airfare is good from October 5 through November 15, just before the start of the Thanksgiving rush. To take advantage of this deal, you've got to purchase by September 10. Seats are limited, and this discount airfare includes neither taxes nor fees. When Air Midwest inaugurates Joplin service, the Missouri city will have five Mesa flights per day: two to Dallas/Fort Worth, and a three to Kansas City (MCI). Mesa makes the MCI – JLN jaunts under the US Airways Express banner.
