| Big Ten: Week 6 Breakdown
Best matchup: The Michigan State running game against the Michigan run defense. Despite a poor effort against Illinois that netted a season-low 82 yards, the Spartans still rank ninth in the country in rushing (220.8 yards per game). They had better relocate the ground game in a hurry, because the Wolverines are No. 1 in the country against the run, yielding just 36.4 yards per game. If Michigan State can't run it effectively – and it will be more difficult without the injured Javon Ringer - John L. Smith and Co. will get hammered. Worst matchup: Wisconsin running back P.J. Hill vs. the Northwestern defense. The Badgers' redshirt freshman has four 100-yard games so far this season. The Wildcats have yielded 100-yard rushers in each of the last two games. All signs point to a huge day for Hill and a big hill to climb for NU.
German call tells doctor his cousin won Nobel
Just before 3 a.m. yesterday, Dr. Richard Kornberg, a Hillcrest dermatologist, received a phone call from a German radio station. The Nobel Prize in chemistry had just been announced in Sweden and the winner was Stanford researcher Roger Kornberg. The German journalists first asked for Roger, then wanted to know if Richard was related. If so, could he connect them with the prizewinner. That is how the La Jolla resident found out his cousin won the Nobel Prize. Over the next hour, the La Jolla family received calls from Germany, Brazil, Sweden and Spain. The phone hardly stopped ringing all day, says Richard's wife, Eydie. She immediately notified Richard's uncle and Roger's father, Arthur Kornberg, who won the Nobel Prize in 1959. Arthur quickly passed the news on to another son, Ken, an architect with an office in San Diego.
Busta Rhymes Cancels Australian Tour
The rapper was due to appear at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on 1st October, but backed out at the last minute. Busta reportedly said he wanted "more money, business class airfare" for his "entire entourage and five star accommodation." According to the promoter, PDA Touring, the tour was cancelled due to "outrageous demands on the eve of the departure by Busta Rhymes' management." However, sources close to Busta Rhymes have said that he had never intended to perform in Sydney in the first place, as the tour schedule on his official website said he was due to appear in Oakland on the same night, opening for Mariah Carey. The is not the first time Busta Rhymes has cancelled an appearance in Australia. In 2004 he pulled out of a performance after members of his entourage were detained at Sydney Airport for several hours due to immigration issues.
