| Scottsdale district ends janitor contract after alleged rape
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The cleaning company that employed a man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl at Saguaro High School has lost its contract with the Scottsdale Unified School District. District officials said they are ending the contract on Oct. 11 because the company, ABM Janitorial Services, failed to thoroughly complete new background checks on its 90-plus employees who clean Scottsdale schools. The district already required the company to do background checks as part of its contract, said district spokesman Keith Sterling. But it asked for a reexamination of all workers after the Aug. 25 incident, when it was revealed that the suspect was an illegal immigrant with a DUI arrest that should have prevented him from working on campus. ABM workers will still be cleaning district schools for the next month, but they will be supervised by district-hired crews, Sterling said.
Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services ...
Systems (Nasdaq:COGT) announced today that it has been awarded a contract from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) for its next generation Automated Palmprint and Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). After extensive system benchmarking, the DPSCS awarded the new 5 year contract to Cogent based on its proven technology, merit and value proposition. The initial contract award is valued at over $4 million. Cogent's new AFIS will replace a legacy system from the incumbent provider and will include significant enhancements and added functionality. Under this contract, Cogent will digitalize five (5) million fingerprint, palm print, and latent hard copy records. The new AFIS will include customized workflows to support law enforcement identification, including the ability to search both flat and rolled fingerprints, palm prints, as well as civil background checks.
District looks at janitorial employee files
SCOTTSDALE - The Scottsdale Unified School District is reviewing the paperwork for all 130 janitorial employees contracted through ABM Janitorial Services. The request is one of several steps district officials have taken in the two weeks since a Saguaro High School freshman told police that a janitor sexually assaulted her on campus. On Friday, ABM provided the school district with its files for each employee in Scottsdale schools. The files include the background check, copies of employee identification including Social Security number, aliases and addresses for the past seven years. .
