| Wortham: Club members take a trip down memory lane - restaurant ...
With the temperature hovering around 104 degees in the parking lot, the Hunting Club gathered around the large corner table in Doreen's 24 HR Eat Gas Now Cafe to enjoy the air conditioning. "I just love this place," Doc said, looking around the cafe. "Every time I come in, I just take a deep breath and relax." We studied on that statement for a while. Not that Doreen's environment can't be restorative, but based on our extensive experience, the establishment is anything but relaxing. "I think you mean you love the familiarity of this place," I said. "You know, coming here is like being home." "Thank you," Doreen called from behind the counter. "Your lunch is free today." "Hey, I like this cafe too!" Wrong Willie shouted.

Former milkman has petrol pump, will travel
A former milkman has spent 3.5m on expanding his petrol retailing empire into England, although oil giants complain there is no money to be made from selling fuel to motorists. Kenny Webster says cut-throat competition for business means retailers sometimes have to keep the prices of petrol below the cost charged by suppliers. The supply trade is dominated by oil majors, which are making bumper profits from oil and gas production. However, there is so much money to be made from operating higher-margin convenience stores on forecourts and providing services such as car washing that Webster has won backing from Allied Irish Bank for a big expansion drive. The acquisition of a portfolio of 10 stores from privately-owned Victoria Sands, including three in north-east England, will give Webster an important foothold in the lucrative English market.
Latest news in brief from northern Nevada
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A fundraiser staged by Gov. Kenny Guinn and his wife, Dema, to assist two northern Nevada museums has netted about $100,000, including a $25,000 donation from the governor and first lady. The Guinns launched the Tin Cup Tea and Chuckwagon Barbecue fundraiser seven years ago to benefit the Nevada State Museum in Carson City and the W.M. Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering Museum at the University of Nevada, Reno. More than 1,000 people attended the event Saturday night at the governor's mansion. "History is too important for all of us to lose," Dema Guinn said. "If we don't keep it alive and show our children the history, we aren't doing our job. But we need funding to do that." The first lady said the future of the event rests with the next governor.
