| Road repairs slow traffic on Pena Boulevard
Road repairs on Pena Boulevard leaving Denver International Airport began at 6 a.m. today and are scheduled to be completed by 6 p.m. Oct. 2. The project involves removal and replacement of some concrete panels in the section from the Conoco station turnoff to the point where the road merges with 78th Avenue or Rental Car Road. Two lanes of traffic will be open during the work, but both lanes will be shifted to the south and speed limits through the construction zone will be reduced to 35 mph. .
PROGRESS REPORT
Crews continue to work on the $90 million consolidated rental car facility at Kansas City International Airport. Two escalators and a flight of stairs recently were installed inside the main building — a 78,000-square-foot, two-level, shared-customer service center. On the top floor, the wood frames that separate each of the car rental agencies' ticket counters are up. And on the bottom floor, where buses carrying rental car customers from the terminals will enter, much of the concrete has been laid. When completed, customers will get off their bus and take the escalator to the top floor. A three-lane road around the facility also has been built. The rental car facility sits on the site of a former satellite parking lot along Cook-ingham Drive between Paris and Bern streets.
Car hire: Very sneaky
Regular readers will know that weve been running a campaign over the past few months to try to stop car-hire firms being sneaky so-and-sos, with their sneaky hidden charges and their sneaky adding of extras on your credit card once youve flown home. We were tired of all this sneaky sneakiness. So imagine our excitement when, the other day, an announcement came from the Alamo press office entitled Alamo and National Respond to Criticism of Rental Industry. It promised not much the option to pay by debit card, two-hour reservation and two-hour holding time for cars and a new, clearer rental wallet. But at least theyre trying. Trouble is, a few days before that, Id hired a car through Alamos Dublin office. And I had set myself a challenge: Id hired the car, paid a deposit and had just 56.40 to pay.
“SALUTE TO AMERICA” KICKS OFF FINAL WEEKS OF RACING SEASON AT ...
Orange Show Speedway will open the final eight weeks of its 2006 racing season Saturday night with a “Salute to America" to commemorate the five-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001. The ASA Super Late Models, Late Models and Pony Stocks will resume their respective points battles and share the racing spotlight with the second Late Model Pro Truck exhibition. The Legend Cars and Bandoleros also will be in action on the quarter-mile paved oval at the National Orange Show Events Center. To honor the dedication and bravery exhibited by the nation's fire departments, law enforcement and military personnel and rescue agencies in the wake of the terrorist attacks, speedway officials have distributed free tickets to public service agencies and military installations throughout the Inland Empire.
