Lions Love Them Wideouts

Is Detroit Lions' GM Matt Millen fascinated with troubled, expensive, disappointing wide receivers? I mean, I hate to keep kicking a dead horse, but with rumors of the Lions' interest in acquiring Jerry Porter from the Oakland Raiders, you have to wonder what the heck he's thinking in even entertaining the notion of acquiring this guy. No, there was no trade offer made, but why would Millen even explore the possibility of adding Porter's poor attitude to a team trying to instill a new disciplined approach? Why make that phone call?

Hasn't he seen enough with Charles Rogers, who's still waiting for some team willing to risk the league minimum on him, and Mike Williams, who can't get his fat butt on a football field when it counts? Has Roy Williams not looked like enough of a buffoon over the last week that the team feels it needs to go out and get another?

I realize personnel men have to explore every possibility, but this type of thinking is a perfect example of why the Lions are today's Bengals/Cardinals.

Steelers' Porter cited after dogs kill horse

Two dogs owned by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Joey Porter got off his fenced property and killed a miniature horse on a nearby farm, leading to citations that carry several hundred dollars in potential fines.

Porter's dogs, a pit bull and a mastiff, got loose Tuesday and killed the horse that was less than three feet tall. The dogs were still in the dead horse's corral when police and animal control officials arrived, Northern Regional Police Chief Bob Amann said.

Porter helped police get the dogs off the property and back to his home. Because Porter's yard is fully fenced, police did not know how the dogs got loose.

"It was an accident and I am not sure how the dogs escaped," Porter said in a statement. "I have reached out to the owners of the horse and will do whatever I can to help them get through this very unfortunate situation."

The horse's owners have so far declined comment.

West Jordan neighbors upset over alleged horse slaughtering ...

He used to live in a rural area, but in his thirty years in West Jordan off of Redwood Road, Lerwill Olsen has become surrounded by new residential subdivisions. And now his neighbors are speaking up and hoping for action, to shut down the horse killing and slaughtering they say occurs on Olsen's property. Neighbors provided ABC4 News with a series of photos they say they took Wednesday evening of two dead horses being strung up on a meat hook, skinned, gutted and butchered in plain sight of families in their homes and on their decks. "Its pretty disgusting," one man said. He and his wife spoke under a promise of anonymity. They say they fear retaliation if they identify themselves to their neighbor. "We'll see him take a horse up on the hoist and eventually we'll see the people who actully bought the meat come over and help the guy skin the animal and do all thr proper cleaning and stuff like that." His wife says first they'll hear a noise, like a shot.
